Joanne Najjar is a Lebanese sculptural ceramic artist whose practice explores movement held within stillness.
With a background in mathematics and computer science and a longstanding connection to painting and creative expression, she later found in clay a medium that brought together structure, intuition and movement.
Working from her studio in the mountains of Lebanon, Najjar creates handbuilt stoneware sculptures shaped by an ongoing exploration of movement and form.

 

 

 

Artistic Practice

Inspired by nature and the shifting language of emotions, Najjar creates forms that capture gestures suspended in time — a wave at its point of tension, a form opening, rising or reaching, a movement held just before transformation.
Each piece is shaped slowly by hand, balancing structure and fluidity, intention and instinct. Raw textures, refined glazes and organic contours give permanence to these fleeting gestures.
At the heart of her practice is Movement in Stillness — an exploration of those fleeting moments when emotion, energy and form seem momentarily suspended.
