Clay holds its form. Silk carries movement.
In this collection, silk is not treated as an accessory placed onto the ceramic. It becomes part of the composition, weaving through sculpted openings, wrapping around the form and introducing movement, color and narrative into the solidity of stoneware.
The collaboration brings together Joanne Najjar’s sculptural ceramic practice and Lilly the Twilly’s silk craftsmanship. Each ceramic form is conceived and handbuilt in Najjar’s studio, where structure, texture and the integration of silk are developed as part of the sculpture itself.
Lilly the Twilly’s silk pieces introduce imagery inspired by Beirut, Lebanon, women and desert landscapes, adding fluidity and narrative to the ceramic forms.
Together, the two materials create a dialogue between structure and movement, permanence and fluidity, while each retains its own character within a single sculptural composition.
Trace – Link Collection
Trace explores the passage of movement through a still and grounded form. The vertical ceramic structure remains quiet and contained, while silk passes through its sculpted opening, creating a fluid gesture held momentarily in place.
Inspired by the serenity of Ramadan evenings, the deep midnight-blue surface evokes the atmosphere of a night sky, while subtle pearlescent highlights respond softly to light.
Integrated through the form is Lilly the Twilly’s Lunara Twilly, inspired by the landscape of AlUla. At the heart of its imagery is the falcon, a symbol of strength, vision and freedom. As the silk moves through the ceramic structure, fragments of its imagery appear and disappear, leaving a shifting visual trace within the solidity of the clay.
Together, the two materials create a tension between permanence and passage: the clay holds the moment while the silk carries the movement.
