Rise Désir I – Terre d'Ivoire, explores the tension between gravity and the desire to move beyond it. Lifted from the ground on one side, the form appears to resist its own weight, reaching outward and upward in a suspended gesture.
Broad planes extend in different directions, while flowing ridges emphasize the force of the movement. With no single dominant viewpoint, the sculpture continually transforms as one moves around it - shifting from enclosed and grounded to open and expansive. The changing silhouettes and negative spaces reveal a different expression from every angle.
Handbuilt in highly grogged stoneware, the natural Terre d’Ivoire surface is left tactile and understated. Its warm ivory tone allows light and shadow to trace the ridges, raw edges and changing planes of the form.
